About the Nancy Cowan School of DANCE

Nancy Cowan - DirectorThe regular ballet and jazz program focus is on ballet and jazz technique. Students are given opportunities to perform in our December and May shows. Young dancers gain grace, poise, self-confidence and flexibility. They benefit from the muscle toning, fitness and self-discipline that dance offers. Children enjoy their commitment to our dance program and the experience of performing on a stage.

The ballroom program focus is on social dancing, learning to move with ease and being comfortable on the dance floor.    Competitive training is available.  Opportunities to practice are Friday Night Parties at the Gotta Dance Ballroom & Latin Studio, 420 Bank Street in Ottawa.

The ballet and jazz portion of the School started in 1970 as the Rideau School of Performing Dance and has been under the direction of Nancy Cowan since 1999.  Classes are instructed mainly by Nancy.

Nancy has been instructing in Kemptville over 20 years.  She was trained by Christiana Maier, previous director of the School.  Nancy has furthered her training in Ottawa with Les Petits Ballets and The School of Dance and at various workshops at the National Ballet of Canada and through CDTA in Toronto.  She also instructs for Les Petits Ballets, the City of Ottawa and ballet for the Ottawa Rhythmic Gymnastics Club.  She has done private coaching in body technique for the Quebec Special Olympics Inc.
